At times we fly off the handle because of all the legal wrangling and jitterbugging that re-listing of  all non-essential wolves has caused (emphasis on NON ESSENTIAL),  this has caused many emotions to cloud  reality,  judgment of court authority, ( even if it was a 'wording' problem) it is still no excuse NOT to do SOMETHING, while waiting for the legal system to work it's way through, just as states scramble to find inventive and creative solutions, so are the pro-activists, taking advantage of this legal lull to propose transplanting more wolves into other states like NM( thank god some one had the sense to stop that) ... in trying to bring back the Mexican wolf, ( if you do that! you have to bring back the plains jack rabbit to it's full glory)  bringing eradicated groups of animals back to   'historical areas' has wide range and rippling effect and these ".orgs" are doing this while no one can do anything about it.  The damage I have personally  seen, the decline of many species of animals, as well as the over population of other small animals like ground squirrels, and field mice, etc. in wolves territories,  because the "historical" hunter like the coyote has been 'removed' from it's "historic" range, not by disease, or starvation, or trapping/hunting, they are all but gone because they are a perceived threat by the gray wolf and have either dispatched them or for the lucky ones ran away to other areas of protection which often includes someones chicken house, I hear wolves above my home, now I hear of the coyotes that have set up a living room down below my home along with foxes digging dens right along the HW, while I'm sure this has happened in the past, now I have seen several road side fox dens  and too have seen the decline of our turkey population as a result of the displaced and concentrated coyotes and foxes... the ripple affect!

It's hard to keep things in perspective with out becoming angry at the lackadaisical attitude of the uneducated public ( most  who live in towns that are not affected by this every growing cancer called the gray wolf), but ignorance only goes so far, once you see the facts, it's no longer ignorance then it turns into stupidity, and they seem for some crazy reason to side with the 'poor wolf' an animal that should have never been moved in mass to the lower 48, then allowed to breed themselves out of house, home and food,  those that by themselves  crossed over from Canada I don't count as eventually prior to 1995 went back to where the came from,  now as packs get larger, vying for territory and food, are fanning out to other states, wreaking havoc as they go, NO SPACE - NO PLACE, these non essential, non native, aggressive eating machines are making the news every other day if not every day in some form or another.  If we wanted to split hairs, we could start transplanting all the little critters that have been eaten and/or pushed out of there homes, squirrels, skunks, raccoons, deer, elk, moose, Bears, fox, coyotes, and start putting them back into the canyons, for food for the wolves, the sacrificial lambs of the wild. In the interim we are forced to endure the wrath of these wolves  while awaiting for some kind of action, people and animal encounters are increasing each day, it's only a matter of time, instead of having a deer on my porch, it's going to be a wolf staring in my front door looking for a meaty meal.

What's more than interesting in this reel is how the wolves run the Healthy cow elk into the water, while keeping her swimming to exhaustion - a learned behavior in killing. Dozens of people watched this unfold, rooting for the cow to rid herself of her fate. People yelling "swim little girl  swim", this ain't HOLLYWOOD - it's real life extermination of our beautiful elk, moose, deer, bears, coyotes, little critters and at the Expense  of the wolf. in the Video, watch how the cow try's in vain to use the camera men for safety.

WARNING The clip below is heart wrenching,  these wolves were full, and had no reason other than just to kill this poor little native predator/scavenger, torn to bits, the body discarded, with the excess killing of these smaller predators, mice and ground squirrel  populations HAVE skyrocketed along with voles and field mice.

WARNING the clip below may not be suitable for some viewers

This cow moose,  brave and valiantly tries to defend her newborn calf, in her confusion whirls and tramples the baby several times, with cameras rolling the wolves continued  they're pursuit of the tiny calf, an easy mark and kill for them once the cow was exhausted, the "baiting" wolves, a technique learned and one that delivers the goods. Several Bait her away, while others tear down the baby, the aggressiveness found in these large wolves is unique to that of other predators  will not risk bodily injury as these giants of the wolf world do, they are almost cavalier in strategy, the smaller timber type wolf or coyotes would have weighed out the situation and given up under the fierceness of the cow.  People do need to realize that F&G saying that calves are not at as much risk until  6 months to a year is simply not true, the calves are the easiest of meals to obtain as seen in this video, those who do make it to weaning are smaller than they're adult counter-parts where growth and  life's experiences have not prepared them for survival strategies, making it unlikely they make it past 1 year of age.

BITE FORCE

National Geographic measuring the bite force of a wolf,as compared to other world wide predators as well as domestic dogs, while I do not condone the active keeping of wolves at any level, I found the data interesting.
